For instance, Hou et al [1] emulated the Clinical Outcomes of Surgical Therapy Study Group Trial by integrating both EHR data and unstructured textual information from clinical notes. They found that with appropriate adjustment of temporal shift, RWE can supplement RCTs in the assessment of treatment outcomes over time. Patorno et al [2] further augmented EHR and insurance claims data with wearable devices and patient-reported outcomes in their treatment outcome analysis.
