Other validated instruments were administered alongside the first administration of the Color of Drinking questionnaire: (1) the Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT), the microaggressions subscale from the Racial and Ethnic Microaggression Scale (REMS) [9], and the Sense of Belonging Index (SBI). Participants suggested the inclusion of viewing all microaggression comments (100%) and no microaggression comments (0%) as options. Finally, inspired by the idea of content blocking on Instagram, participants wanted a microaggression content alert to initially block comments with microaggressions but allow people to view the comment if they click the button to view the comment.

At the end of each web page experience, participants were provided with a questionnaire link that measured microaggression, public stigma, social distance from people with mental illness, perceived autonomy, and immersiveness. One week after the experimental session, participants completed a follow-up questionnaire assessing microaggression, public stigma, and social distance from people with mental illness. Finally, participants were debriefed.
