The e-coaches experienced being able to monitor participants’ progress with the grief service as supportive and reassuring:
Whether they [the mourner] made progress or deteriorated, a kind of support for recognizing if anything were to happen. Maybe if they [the mourner] did not tell us, to have another chance at detecting it.

A recent study by our group found that an electronic diary embedded in a mobile device to monitor blood glucose can be as effective as the traditional method and is more likely to be used by participants than paper diaries [7]. However, no study has examined the efficacy of self-monitoring multiple behaviors on dietary behaviors.

Compared with the traditional approach of most studies that only use wearable inertial sensors to monitor kinematic aspects of human movement, the use of artificial intelligence (AI) techniques has been gaining popularity, by helping to improve the process of assessing and supervising different body movements using inertial sensors, in addition to reducing the number of sensors necessary for this [40-42].

Their ubiquity and ability to unobtrusively amass large amounts of data in real time regarding the user’s functions and behaviors in their everyday life make them feasible tools to monitor mental health symptoms and identify users at risk of poor well-being.
Data collected can include both passive data from smartphone sensors, logs, and metadata as well as ecological momentary assessments [9], which are in situ, real-time data collection methods, such as app-based self-report scales.

However, many people with diagnosed hypertension do not own a BP monitor: one UK study found the rate to be not much more than half of treated patients [16]. For many patients who do own a BP monitor, the challenges to using the monitor mean they do not measure their BP according to clinical instructions.
