Gender Representation in Authorship of Academic Dermatology Publications During the COVID-19 Pandemic: Cross-Sectional Study

Gender Representation in Authorship of Academic Dermatology Publications During the COVID-19 Pandemic: Cross-Sectional Study

We, therefore, surveyed the representation of total female authors, female first authors (FFAs), and female senior or last authors (FSAs; a potential indicator of academics more advanced in their careers [3]) in the recent dermatologic literature. Dermatology articles, letters, reviews, and editorials published in 2018 through 2022 were searched on June 21, 2023, in Clarivate’s Web of Science and filtered for the top five dermatology journals by the 2022 h-index [4].

Race, Ethnicity, and Other Cultural Background Factors in Trials of Internet-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Depression: Systematic Review

Race, Ethnicity, and Other Cultural Background Factors in Trials of Internet-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Depression: Systematic Review

Given the potential for i CBT to reach minoritized communities, it is important to understand the reporting and representation of race-ethnicity in i CBT studies. If individuals from racial-ethnic minoritized groups are being underreported, it would be difficult to determine how well our current interventions meet the needs of these individuals. For these reasons, we explored the reporting and representation of racial-ethnic diversity in clinical trials of i CBT for depression.

Strengthening TikTok Content Analysis in Academia Using Follower Count and Engagement

We read with great interest Abdelnour et al’s paper titled “Skin of color representation for atopic dermatitis on Tik Tok: cross-sectional analysis” [1] and express our gratitude for the findings. Using the search term #eczema in July 2022, the study evaluated the representation of patients with skin of color (So C) and the quality of atopic dermatitis videos on Tik Tok.

Diversity Among American Dermatological Association Members by Sex and Geographic Region

Diversity Among American Dermatological Association Members by Sex and Geographic Region

Our group evaluated the American Dermatological Association (ADA) since election occurs through a nomination by existing members; we hypothesize this process creates gaps in representation. Given the professional implications for underrepresented individuals, this review aims to quantify the disparities in sex and geographic location of ADA members. Ethnicity/race was not analyzed because the information was not publicly available. In February 2023, the ADA directory identified 767 members.

Three-Dimensional Virtual Reconstructions of Shoulder Movements Using Computed Tomography Images: Model Development

Three-Dimensional Virtual Reconstructions of Shoulder Movements Using Computed Tomography Images: Model Development

In this study, we used CT images to build a 3 D digital representation of the shoulders comprising bones and muscles, and developed an application for visualizing shoulder movements. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report implementing an application for the visualization of shoulder movements involving bones and agonistic muscles. Future research will lead to the development of an algorithm to import patient-specific CT data and present it in our 3 D visualization application.

Skin of Color Representation Trends in JAAD Case Reports 2015-2021: Content Analysis

Skin of Color Representation Trends in JAAD Case Reports 2015-2021: Content Analysis

Case reports are important starting points and foundational for high-quality studies in the research pyramid evidence hierarchy [2], thus inclusivity and diverse representation should be encouraged. We therefore sought to examine So C representation and race/ethnicity reporting in all case photos published by JAAD Case Reports since its inception in 2015 through 2021.

Skin of Color Dermatology Representation in American College of Mohs Surgery Educational Cases on Instagram: Content Analysis

Thus, we assessed So C representation in the popular weekly “Flap Friday” content on the @mohs.college page, featuring pre- and postprocedure Mohs cases (Figure 1). Two independent raters categorized and tabulated patients’ constitutive skin tones (light, fair, medium, or dark) following previously published methods [2], with discrepancies resolved by independent tiebreakers and consensus meetings.
