Teledentistry Applied to Health and Education Outcomes: Evidence Gap Map
A filter for SRs and meta-analysis on teledentistry was applied to the consulted databases, and the results respected the following PICO strategy:
P=patients, students, and health professionals
I=teledentistry
C=conventional dentistry
O=health and education
A team of calibrated experts from the Telehealth and Teledentistry Center FOUSP-SAITE (Nu Tes-FOUSP, University of São Paulo, SP, Brazil), along with researchers and librarians from BIREME/OPAS, was consulted to cross-review the search strategy before establishing

The conversion of the traditional dental examinations to m Dent virtual examinations builds upon the diagnostic reliability of teledentistry [8-10] and the rapid advancement of m Health tool use by all-age Americans [11,12]. Clinicians have been using intraoral photos [8-10] and live video [13,14] to diagnose caries and predict with high accuracy the appropriate treatment modality for pediatric patients.

A growing body of evidence reports the potential of teledentistry, at the intersection of dentistry and telecommunications, as highly pertinent to the future of dentistry [8]. Teledentistry aims to use technologies and related services to deliver oral health care. It has proven to be effective and reliable for remote dental screening, diagnosis, consultation, and treatment planning [9,10].

Teledentistry Implementation During the COVID-19 Pandemic: Scoping Review
The wider use of teledentistry during the pandemic makes it important to understand issues related to its enhanced use.
The purpose of this scoping review was to evaluate teledentistry use during the pandemic. Specifically, the review sought to answer the following 4 questions:
How was teledentistry implemented during the COVID-19 pandemic?
What challenges occurred when implementing teledentistry during the COVID-19 pandemic?
What strategies were used to overcome these challenges?

The emergence of technology-associated healthcare has paved the way for teledentistry, which includes a plethora of dental health apps that are being used for teleconsultation for oral health–related issues, booking appointments, and for electronic recordkeeping. The earliest evidence reported for online dental services was for teleassistance for minor orthodontic emergencies using mobile phones with a video function [25].
