A Simple Ventilator Designed To Be Used in Shortage Crises: Construction and Verification Testing
One way to fill in the gap is to design, build, and test a device (acute-shortage ventilator; ASV) that can deliver a subset of requirements that a standard intensive care unit ventilator fulfills, and many have done so [4]. Previous literature has described mechanical ventilators [5-7] and their applications [8,9].

To forecast the health care needs expected to arise from predicted cases, we additionally created the COVID-19 Hospitalization, Intensive Care, and Ventilator Estimator (CHIVE) forecasting tool, which combines forecasts every Monday and Thursday from COFFEE for the state of New Mexico, with current state-level data on hospitalizations, ICU bed use, and mechanical ventilator use.
