Pediatric tuina, also known as pediatric anmo or traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) pediatric massage, is a specialized form of massage therapy tailored for infants and children [13]. It is grounded in TCM principles, which emphasize the harmonious functioning of the body’s systems [13]. In ancient Chinese medicine, the term “double yang person” was used to describe individuals exhibiting symptoms of ADHD [14].

Historical records of massage therapy date back 3000 years, and massage therapy is mentioned in the earliest medical book in China, the Huangdi Neijing (The Yellow Emperor’s Classic of Internal Medicine), which recorded the theory of Chinese medicine and massage theory. The value of massage as a form of therapy has been recognized throughout history by ancient civilizations in China, India, Japan, Thailand, and, later, the ancient Egyptians, as well as the Greeks and Romans [30].

Based on the procedure described in the “Methods” section, 165 websites across the 5 CIH domains of acupuncture, homeopathy, massage, reiki, and yoga were selected for this review. The domains, their size, and example sites, are presented in Table 4. As can be seen, this review included websites that were specifically focused on a domain, as well as websites with a more general focus that include content relating to CIH domains.

The use of complementary nonpharmacologic interventions such as massage has been suggested in the clinical practice guidelines of the Society of Critical Care Medicine given their opioid-sparing and analgesia-enhancing potential [20]. Massage has been defined as the manual manipulation of muscles and soft tissues of the body through the application of various systematic and rhythmic hand movements [22,23].
